York taxidermist brings wildlife back to life

YORK –Carl Lewis killed and mounted his first pheasant when he was just 12 years old. As Lewis learned the skill of taxidermy, he began to mount them for the hunter friends of his father.

Now 53, Lewis has been mounting animals all his life — ducks and other birds, as well as fish, deer, bears, elk, lynx and even a huge buffalo that he killed while on a hunting trip out West.

He recently attended a Georgia State Taxidermy Association competition in Macon, Ga., where he ran away with awards in the fish division — two first-place ribbons for a chum salmon and pink salmon and four other awards.  Read Article
